Beginner Sea Kayaking Course
This course is for those that either have tried kayaking before on flat water or are complete novices and wish to explore the sea environment in a specialised sea kayak.

We will undertake journeys around Anglesey where kayak coaching will be mixed with admiring the views and wildlife spotting. Sea Kayaking is a great and fulfilling mode of transport to discover and the environment. We recognise everyone will learn and develop at different paces, so we individualise our coaching so everyone maximises their time with us. Venues
We run the courses from our base at Arete Outdoor Centre, Llanrug near Caernarfon. A short drive away are the Menai Straits that has various sheltered trips. From Menai Bridge a quick road allows us to access the Northern, Western and Eastern coasts of Anglesey allowing us to find shelter and different sea conditions. All around Anglesey are good beaches, cliffs and caves. There are a couple of seal colonies and various nesting and visiting birds. If you are lucky we do get occasional visits from porpoise and dolphins.
Kit
We have a large fleet of sea kayaks so we can provide the best boat for everyone. The fleet includes P&H Scorpio, Capella & Jura plus Valley boats. We also provide Werner or Lendal blades. Along with bouyancy aid, helmet and spraydeck we also supply a cag and wetsuit. You just need to bring along footwear your happy to get wet, old trainers are ideal. All kit is included in the course cost.
What Experience is Needed?
This course can be for novices. Ideally though you will have some experience on flat water and have paddled a kayak forward and performed some turns.
Course Costs & Dates
We run private courses for the Introduction to Sea Kayaking. Private course can be run on dates that suit you and allow us to tailor the course content for each individual.
Private Bespoke Course:
Up to 4 people – £250 per day
Extra people at £50 per person. Best to have a maximum of 6 participants per instructor
Note some sessions can be run at a ratios of up to 1:10, but you would be limited to very simple white water rapids at these high ratios. Extra instructors can be booked for bigger groups.
We will normally meet around 0930 at Arete Outdoor Centre near Caernarfon, returning by 1630. If you have accommodation over on Anglesey then it can also be possible to meet at your accommodation instead.
