Winter
Climbing & Mountaineering in Scotland & Wales |
 |
|
| |
We
provide the opportunity to experience the magic that
is winter climbing through our special winter skills courses.
Be guided on classic routes in Glen Coe, Cairngorms or on Ben
Nevis. Learn how to safely
operate in this environment covering avalanches, ropework, snow
& ice anchors and the ability to navigate the changing winter
terrain.
The courses are
mainly based up in the hills of Scotland, from the valley
base of Fort William. These mountains provide the best snowy
and icy venues during the winter, all of which are atmospheric
and mesmerising. We also run courses in our home of North
Wales, depending on the conditions - see below. Venue
infromation.
Below
are listed a variety of winter mountaineering and
ice climbing courses
on offer, each tailored to differing levels of experience. We
run all our winter courses as private bookings so that each
course is personalised and tailored to your individual needs.
Maximum ratio for winter mountaineering is 1:4 and 1:2 for ice
/ mixed climbing.

you new to winter or previously been walking in the winter mountains,
then this course will enable you to sharpen your current skills
in winter navigation, avalanche awareness, use of crampons and
axes and emergency survival techniques. It also allows you to
progress forward to safely negotiating steeper grade I ground.
This may involve the use of a rope, so snow and ice anchors will
be demonstrated and simple belaying methods. |

All
the above courses are also run in Snowdonia, North Wales. With
short walk-ins and plenty of quality routes on ice, mixed and
mountaineering terrain there is something for everyone. |

Welsh Winter Courses in Snowdonia
Mountaineering on Tryfan,
Snowdon and Glyders
Ice Climbing in Cwm Idwal,
Llanberis Pass, Carneddau
Mixed Climbing on Black Ladders,
Clogwyn Du, Cwm Lloer
Gullies on Glyders, Cwm Glas
and Cneifion

|
| Cwm
Idwal is well know for its quality of ice close to the road. However
Snowdonia has much more to offer the budding winter mountaineer
and climber with the Black Ladders, Trinity Face on Snowdon, Cwm
Lloer, Cwm Glas plus winter ascents of scrambles like N. Ridge
Tryfan and Crib Goch.
In recent years
the conditions have been variable. If conditions aren't wintry
then we can run the course in Scotland instead. However last year
the conditions were consistently good and with snow down to the
valleys in November 2010 it seems the same will happen again.
