The 2 day
introduction to climbing course allows you to experience the
joys of outdoor rock climbing. Throughout the weekend, we build
up your confidence and skill level in movement on the rock and
handling of the climbing equipment, allowing you to experience
a wide range of different climbing routes.
On the first
day we use friendly single pitch crags (climbable in less than
one rope-length). Working at low client to instructor ratios
of 1:4 maximises the time spent climbing.
The second
day is on longer multi-pitch routes. The ratio is reduced to
1:2, which is necessary to complete routes over 100m in length.
If you are interested we can also introduce more complex ropework
and gear placements while climbing.
Typical itinerary
for the Introduction to Outdoor Rock Climbing
includes the following:
- Introduction days on small friendly crags
- How to tie-on and belay (hold the ropes for a fellow climber)
- Taught climbing techniques (smearing, edging, bridging,
hand jams...)
- Seconding on multi-pitch routes on the second day
- Safely attaching yourself to belays on multi-pitch routes
